Message to Teens, “Get Help Immediately if You are Having Suicidal Thoughts!”
If you are experiencing suicidal thoughts, or feel like life has become too large of a burden to continue, then it is imperative that you seek help as soon as possible. Having thoughts of suicide is a very serious issue. Do not feel ashamed, as many people have been where you are at. However, the proper help is available. It often helps to simply talk to someone who will actively listen and not judge you.
Confiding in an a trusted family member, friend, teacher or any other trusted acquaintance about your issues can be very beneficial, as they can reassure you that things will get better. Also, calling a teen suicide hotline and talking to a stranger when you are feeling low can also be quite therapeutic. It may seem like it is easier to talk to someone who can’t see you and is unaware of your history.
Although we would like to think that we can handle our issues without the help of others, the fact is everyone needs some sort of help to get through their issues. Talking to someone you trust, or to someone who will actively listen can provide you relief as you share what has been negatively impacting your daily life. They can also provide you with healthy solutions to deal with your problems.
If talking to a loved one or volunteer hasn’t removed the ominous dark cloud from above your head, then you need to see a doctor or a professional therapist immediately. A medical professional can provide treatment for depression or an illness that is likely causing your suicidal thoughts. According to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, 90% of suicides are caused by diagnosable and treatable psychiatric disorders. A doctor or therapist can get you on the road to recovery.
The worst thing you can do is not seek help for your depressive thoughts. Teen suicides are prevented when they talked to trusted members of their inner-circle, or get the proper medical attention that they needed. Communication is the key to feeling whole again.
